Serving and Saving

It is a fact that the social and physical well being of those around us is important. Because of this fact, we see people striving to make sure relatives, workmates, and colleagues are happy. As the Zimbabwe National Army, it is also our desire to keep the needy in the organisation in the right frame of mind so that they appreciate life and its purpose.

In pursuit of this desire, and from a broad spectrum of life, the ZNA has been involved in numerous operations aimed at ensuring peace and stability in most parts of the world. This involves ZNA's participation in the Mozambique Campaign, United Nations peace support operations in Somalia, Angola, Nepal, Sudan, Liberia and Cote d'Voire and the Operation Sovereign Legitamacy in the Democratic Republic of Congo among others.

As much as the ZNA's quest for the well being of the society has extended beyond borders, the organisation has also made efforts to address the needs of its members who have so diligently served the nation in both war and peace time over the years. This indeed is a classic case of charity literally beginning at home.

After the realisation that there were some ZNA members and their dependants who needed assistance from time to time, the organization established the Army Charities Race in 1997 as a vehicle to fundraise for the organization's 5 charities. These charities are Tsanga Lodge Convalence Centre, ZNA Benevolent Fund, ZNA Widows and Orphans Fund, ZNA Schools Welfare Trust Fund and ZNA Patients' Trust Fund.

   BENEFICIARIES OF THE FUND

Tsanga Lodge Convalescent Centre

Based in the Eastern Highlands (Nyanga), provides shelter, convalescence facilities and environmental and training guidance to members of the security forces who would  have been injured while dischaging their duties.

Army Widows and Orphans Benevolent Fund

This is an organization within the charitable set up that acts as a stop-gap measure in addressing intermediate financial needs of widows, widowers and orphans of deceased members while waiting for the release of terminal benefits. The fund caters for overnight accommodation, bus fare, school fees and rentals, which

cannot be provided from the fiscus.

ZNA Benevolent Fund

Was established after the realization that ZNA members’ welfare while on active service, internally and or externally, needs to be supported in order to boost troops’ morale. The Fund receives donations in cash and kind and distributes the benefits in the form of goodies to deployed troops to uplift their spirits and inculcate a spirit of oneness between the military and civic society.

ZNA Schools Welfare Trust Fund

Was established to cater for the various schools that fall under military institution. The Zimbabwe National Army currently administers 12 primary schools and five secondary Schools. The fund provides, maintains and develops educational facilities and equipment at these schools for the benefit of serving members’ children and communities around them. It also fundraises and ensures suitable candidates receive the help they deserve.

ZNA Patients Welfare Fund

Was establised with the aim of providing assistance and welfare goodies to members admitted in hospitals and to those ill at home. The fund is also used to purcase goodies such as fruit baskets, drinks, get-well soon-cards and flowers of members
